Welcome to Girls on the Run!
Girls on the Run is a transformational, physical, activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grades. We teach life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.Girls on the Run is an affiliate council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of over 200 councils across the United States and Canada.
We use the power of running to provide girls with the tools to:
- Celebrate their bodies,
- Honor their voices,
- Recognize their gifts, and
- Activate their personal power
Many thanks to the Track Shack Fitness Club for their generous support of our Girls on the Run Orlando Council!
We’re Making a Difference!
The most important lesson that Girls on the Run has taught me is confidence. Confidence is when you stand up for yourself and follow your dreams. The coaches help me understand that I can do whatever I want to, and they motivate me to follow my dreams. With confidence it makes you feel like you are capable of doing something extraordinary. When I grow up I want to be a lawyer. I am positive that confidence will help me achieve that goal. Talking to people, persuading them to listen to me, and speaking up will give me an opportunity to become a lawyer.
Another very important thing that Girls on the Run has taught me is how to face my obstacles. I now know that there will be times when I will get frustrated and stressed out, but the techniques that I have learned will help me face them and get over them. There will be times when I feel like I want to give up and do something easier but that is where Girls on the Run comes in. Girls on the Run has showed me that there are ways to find a solution.
We are thrilled to have GOTR back at Bay Meadows Elementary again this year. I feel this is a great program on campus and am happy to support such a positive club. The club is filled with many girls and run by wonderful volunteers. Our volunteers are enthusiastic about the program and it shows as they meet, run and encourage the girls throughout the year.
I love seeing the girls on campus with their GOTR t-shirts. It certainly makes a statement and you can see their pride in wearing them. I am sure the younger girls are asking about the shirts. GOTR has offered a place of open dialogue with confidentiality, a heathy insight into nutrition and body image and of course great exercise – all of these leading to a great goal – a 5K race.
The benefits of having GOTR here on campus is the camaraderie the girls have gained friendships, a positive image, another outlet for healthy exercise as well as being a community team. Our GOTR have beautified our front entrance each year, leaving it better each time. We are proud of them for their community service and how they have given back to Bay Meadows. I would gladly recommend GOTR as a program other schools should consider.

I just wanted to let you know that the GOTR program is off to a fantastic start! We are up to 10 girls (maybe more), and will probably have to create a waiting list soon. The girls are so engaged, and I see some of their personalities blossoming as a result of the program. Thank you for being diligent about bringing this valuable program to our community.
